Can I just remind you all that at the last taught session before the winter holiday on the 13th Dec we launched the essay questions; not everyone was present when all the tutors gave their presentations, please look on unihub for a copy of the questions, select one from the list.
It is possible to sign up for individual help re. finding research with Marion Syratt-Barnes the subject librarian.

The doll backstage volunteers!

The doll is also currently updating their volunteers data base, which presents the opportunity for fashion based work experience. They would love to hear from anybody interested in helping out backstage with various productions that they work with. Please email studio@thedoll.org stating your year of study, a brief description of any previous work experience, and if you have previously dresses models at fashion shows or other events. Ideally you could also attach your CV and a headshot image.

Gift from Giles Deacon & SHOWstudio

The ninth installment in our 'Design Download' series comes from one of London's brightest stars, Giles Deacon. Just in time for the party season, he's provided the pattern to his saucy double duchess silk 'The Troubadour' dress from A/W 2007. Download the pieces then let your imagination run wild - and don't forget to enter our competition for the chance to see your creation immortalised in film.

Launched in 2002, SHOWstudio's Design Download initiative has a simple and direct aim: to help demystifying the fashion process by offering prestigious designer garment patterns for download via the Internet.

The ninth installment in the series comes from one of London's top talents; acclaimed designer, renowned wit and party dress doyen Giles Deacon. He's offered up the pattern to his saucy double duchess silk The Troubadour dress from his nature-inspired Autumn/Winter 2007 collection. The frock - which was modelled on the runway by Lara Stone - is part playful, part traditional, thanks to eighteenth century notes such as a regal square neckline and puff sleeves.

We will be celebrating the artistic potential of Deacon's pattern with an amazing competition. Once you've constructed your take on the dress, simply submit images of your creation to SHOWstudio via Twitter (@SHOWstudio #DesignDownload) and/or email (design.download@showstudio.com) for the chance to see your work displayed online in our submissions gallery. Nick Knight and Giles Deacon will review the entries and select their favourite, which will then become the star of a specially commissioned SHOWstudio fashion film! Who wouldn't want to see one of their creations captured exquisitely on camera at SHOWstudio?

Tavi Gevinson: Still Figuring it Out

TEDxTeen

Tavi Gevinson is editor-in-chief and founder of RookieMag.com and writes thestylerookie.com. Rookie, a site for teenage girls, broke 1 million page views within 5 days of launching in September of 2011, and contributors have included Miranda July, Dan Savage, Joss Whedon, JD Samson, Zooey Deschanel, Sady Doyle, Lesley Arfin, and Cindy Gallop. It has received praise from Weekend Edition Sunday on NPR, the New Yorker, and a number of other publications, and, most importantly, the girls who write in to the site. Tavi has also written for publications such as Harper's Bazaar, Jezebel, Lula, and Pop, and is a contributing editor to GARAGE magazine. She is 15 and a sophomore in high school, and also the author of an embarrassing diary recently found from the 6th grade.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
